Light in this Dark World

Light in this Dark World

April 2025 - Brenda H. Price

Scripture: Matthew 5:14

"You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden"

Jesus is speaking to His disciples in this passage of scripture, and it is a reminder that we as Christians are called to be radiant examples of God's love and grace in a world that often struggles with darkness, sin, and suffering.

The Love of God is supposed to be so strong and so bright in us that it can pierce through the darkness of despair, hardships or negativity.

This scripture is telling us that as Believers, we are called to be a beacon of hope and truth, demonstrating God's love in our daily lives and lovingly sharing the light of the gospel with others. So what kind of light is Jesus talking about?

· A light is not illuminated by position, power, nor prestige.

· A light that we should not even have to tell others about ourselves. It should be demonstrated by the love that flows out of us.

· A light that when people are around us, they should be drawn to us and not pushed away.

· A light that reflects the character of God.

· A light shinning so bright that it cannot be hidden.

· A light that is displayed in a life of integrity, compassion and the willingness to do what is right (even when we haven’t done anything wrong).

Jesus said, we are the light of the whole world. His love should be blazing like fire on the inside of us, constantly drawing others to Jesus Christ!

Life Application:

As disciples of Christ, He has raised us up to let our light shine in this dark world. People are supposed to be able to look at us and see and feel something different when they are around us. Many of us try hard to fit in a world we are not called to fit in. We are suppose to stand out.

What do you suppose people hear, feel or see when they are around you?

· Do they hear you always trying to tell others what they should do?

· Do they hear you talking about people in an ungodly way?

· Do they feel the love of Christ flowing out of you and want to draw near?

If not, then perhaps we need to re-illuminate the light within us. How do we do that?  By keeping ourselves saturated in the Word of God.  Allowing Him to continually love us, so we can love others. There is no better place to feel God's love than in His Holy Word.  There we see more of Him and He IS Love. Therefore, let us be reminded to let our light shine: not just today but every day.
